An enterprising young gentleman from Pittsburgh named Hans Scharler has connected his toaster to Twitter. Now you can get realtime updates of its toasting endeavors on its Twitter page. Hans connected his toaster to an ioBridge module, which allows it to send realitime email updates to its Twitter account whenever toasting starts or stops. He blogs about the project on his site, and has posted a slideshow on Instructables.

Tuesday, November 4th, 2008 - EvilBreaks says: “Come join us at Mighty where we’ll be broadcasting the election coverage throughout the club with a soundtrack provided by a bunch of amazing artists who just can’t help but celebrate the fact that there really is a light at the end of the tunnel, and yes, it’s changing colors. In the back room we’ll have some food & snacks as well as a couple televisions setup in a more relaxing environment so that the more serious voter can catch all the election info as it comes in. Outside, Peter (TeacherWiththeBus.com) will be bringing down his awesome bus with the dance-floor & the Ambient Mafia will be providing the music, visuals, & who knows what else. In the main room, music will be provided by a couple SF dj’s that I’m sure most of you know, as well as a couple that you probably should know. We also might even have a special, super secret, can’t tell you yet, out-of-town dj stop in to play, but I guess you’ll just have to come to find out.” Mighty, 119 Utah St., San Francisco [map] $5, free before 11pm with proof that you voted, sticker or stub. 9pm - 2am

The brilliant Garfield Minus Garfield features classic Garfield cartoons that have been edited to remove the feline protagonist. The results are fascinating and wonderful, as you can see in the panel below.

Artist Joe Alterio has a project called Robots and Monsters, wherein he will create an illustrated robot or monster based on the three words you provide him. He then donates his $50 fee to the EFF (”like ACLU with computers”), and you get to keep the picture. Here’s one of my favorites: “Cute, bulldog, toast”. You can view the whole menagerie on Flickr.

What do you get when you shoehorn a classic Nintendo NES video game console into a toaster? The Nintoaster! Insert the game cartridges like bread. The lever acts as the on/off switch. Orange LEDs cause the insides to glow like heating elements. Mmmm, nintoasty.
